The outspoken leader of The Pretenders is 55 today. I love The Pretenders. "Packed" sucked, but each album since then has been great. I didn't think they could top "Get Close", but they did. I didn't think they could recover from the loss of Robbie McIntosh and Blair Cunningham, but they did, and original drummer Martin Chambers rejoined in 1993.

I know this sounds funny, but I'm serious. I think it might just work. That's why I didn't put it in the humor category. Some Hollywood actors (might have to be lesser known ones), make-up artists and special effects people could stage a phony ghostly appearance of some dead suicide bombers to tell their live bretheren that there are no virgins in the afterlife. Maybe they couldn't or shouldn't do it live. Maybe it should be a hologram projected on a cloud or something.

They only show concerts during pledge breaks. Sometimes they even interrupt songs. To purchase a copy of a concert from them costs at least $100 which includes the price of becoming a member. Why should anyone pay that much when they can buy the DVD for about $30 in a store? Every concert they show has been or will be released on VHS and/or DVD. If you want to become a member, fine. Some shows are perhaps worth it, (and aren't released) such as "Nova" and "Frontline." So if you want them t...

When a child is convicted of a serious crime (such as hitting his father on the head with a hammer while the father sleeps on the couch), the child has to go to one of several special prisons. A typical day consists of working in the machine shop where they make personalized toy license plates. The youngest ones wear diapers of different colors to designate which gang they're in. They sit in their playpens and clang their bottles against the bars and shout, "Lousy screws!" A lot ...

No, this is not about sex. lol When someone says something that maybe they shouldn't have and the person they said it to is pissed or hurt, the one who said it uses the excuse that it just slipped out and therefore they didn't mean it, and the one they said it to accepts that reason. I think that's wrong. I think it slipped out because that's what they most wanted to say. It's what was uppermost on their mind.

Q: Other than the speed at which most vehicles are able to go, what allows people to speed? A: Good road conditions. So if the government would stop repairing roads, no matter how fast a person's car is, they wouldn't be able to speed, right? I have a lot of good answers, but no one asks me.

One of the best loved actors, he died of a heart attack at the age of 89. Starred in "Flight of the Phoenix", "It's a Wonderful Life", "Vertigo", the remake of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" among many others. What's your favorite Jimmy Stewart film? Mine is "Harvey".

On EOIC's thread here Link , comment #38, lw wrote,"Simon was the Penultimate, tongue-speaking, foot-stomping, slain-in-the-spirit Pentacostal for five years" Comment #41 by Satan's Advocate: "And not to be an English major, but you're misusing penultimate unless you're trying to say he was a shitty Pentecostal." I wrote, "Penultimate means next to the last." Satan's Advocate wrote, "In my book, next to the last is a pretty shitty position." (That's close enough.) Now those last t...

The first one that comes to my mind is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels . A remake of Bedtime Story ; 1964 starring David Niven, Marlon Brando and Shirley Jones. (Yes, Shirley Jones from the "Partridge Family.") No, she wasn't the Jackal. Marlon Brando was. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has a twist. That's the main reason I think it's better. The twist was unexpected and brilliant. Next: Judy Garland and James Mason's A Star is Born 1954. From Cinemania '96: Powerful, semi-musical remake of the 19...

NEW YORK - Conservative pundit Ann Coulter was front page news Wednesday for what she's written about some 9/11 widows: "These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities," writes Coulter. She's also under fire for what she said Tuesday in an interview with the "Today" show's Matt Lauer. "If you lose a husband, you no longer have the right to have a political point of view?" asked Lauer. "No, but don't use the fact t...

This morning on CNN, they asked viewers to email their opinions to the question: "Should there be a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage?" One of the replies said, "People who want to ban gay marriage say it's to protect families and children. I would believe them if there was a ban on rapists, child molesters and wife beaters getting married." Excellent point. On a side note, marriage is not a right. It's a privilege. That's why a license is required.
