Promoting skepticism and reason without boundaries or sacred cows.

This has nothing to do with God, Satan or religion, so if you want to be part of that sort of discussion, well, sorry.

Boredom makes people do strange things. How many of us would be here as much as we are if we had more important real life stuff to do? Are we Internet addicts?

I admit there have been times that I posted comments I didn't really mean because I was bored and I wanted to get replies and keep the conversation going (Mostly about chivalry and a vulgar offer). I wanted to be entertained and I wanted the focus to be on me, and I regret it.

Some people who are not part of the flame wars have commented on how entertaining they are. This should not be the way we get our entertainment.

I don't think gossip mongering is something to be proud of. We seem to have our own versions of Joan Rivers and Jerry Springer. JU is their National Enquirer.

I understand about personality conflicts, but is it who we really are? Are we creating personas as someone recently commented?

Maybe blogging is just a fad that will go away soon. It's hard to know how much we should take seriously. I guess some of us should stay away from the more important topics.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Maybe some of us need to take some time off, unless you enjoy it.

I think it's human nature to enjoy drama and gossip so long as it isn't directed at us. I'd be lying if I said that I was somehow above all that.

I am more bored with JU now though. It seems like maybe the past year or so JU has lost its addictive appeal for me.

I like a lot of the people here, though, so I check in daily and read. I just care less about the other stuff. I feel less need to involve myself in it. I don't know why.

I try to be above it. I think it appeals to our baser nature.

Probably either the novelty has worn off, or you're tired of the site not working.

I feel a little bit of a kinship with you, Tex. You're not religious, and I was born in Austin and my neice is in Wahiawa.

Some debates are futile.

I've often referred to my own blog as the jerry springer show of JU, where various froot-loops and other extreme personalities (myself included)can duke it out without much moderation or interference. I'm comfortable with that, because I find it entertaining and amusing, as do many others.

In essence, you've just admitted that you're white trash.

I bet you watch Jerry Springer, too, just to feel better about yourself.

Nope. Never have.

If you've never seen the show, why would you use it in comparison?

I've seen a few seconds of it while channel surfing.

The difference is: I know I was wrong and I regret it and want to be better. LW doesn't.

Odd, I've never once seen you post an apology to anyone you've offended here, Icon, and you've offended plenty.

I apologized on Baker's thread yesterday.
