WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal authorities on Wednesday shut down an online file-sharing network that had the new Stars War movie before it was shown in theaters.

People attempting to access the elitetorrents.org Web site on Wednesday were greeted with a warning about the penalties for copyright infringement.

The message also said: "This site has been permanently shut down by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Individuals involved in the operation and use of the Elite Torrents network are under investigation for criminal copyright infringement."

If I use a crowbar to steal something does the crowbar maker get arrested? Of course not, so they should stop attacking P2P makers, I think this take down was a good one.

Exactly!

That's why little 12 year olds, old ladies who don't use computers, and people who have been dead for years are facing court orders. The point is not justice, it is fear and oppression by commercial entities using the justice system as their own personal hammer.

yes.  and that is why I call them gestapo!  No reason, no rational, just blind hatred for anything they do not control.

gestapo!

OT: Nor mine for the last two days

Guess it is an upgrade.  it does not work in forums, but does work in the JU site.  Guess we need to upgrade to the pay for version when Brad offers it.

ive heard that the government is scanning all computers for kazaa. at least, thats the news here in the uk. i recon that the record companies and product companies have had enough and are really pressuring the govrnment to do something bout it. if it is true that they are scanning computers for kazaa, im not comfortable with them just accessing my computer and scanning it. and microsoft aint helping to protect our privacy with all the the tracking stuff windows install with it. (theres gotta be summit dodgy with windows anyway. why does it take so long to instal the start menu items, eh?)

I think you misunderstand what "need" means. I think you should use the word "want" or "can justify".

I support P2P for Linux distros, I have a friend that hosted some research via bitorrent. That is Free.
Sharing [stealing] files that are coomecially sold has nothing to do with "free". Someone took time to write that software/music/movie. That person had to pay bills and eat. To them the software is not free . . . it's an investment in themselves.

Good point.

Someone took time to write that software/music/movie. That person had to pay bills and eat. To them the software is not free . . . it's an investment in themselves.

But how much did it cost them to write it?
