I'm not sure which category is correct for this. Anyway......

I had been using "DaVinci's Nightmare." Almost everytime I rebooted, the computer would get stuck on a black screen. I push the reset button and then it goes to the screen with the startup options. I choose "Start Windows Normally" and sometimes it would be ok and other times it would go to the black screen again.

I disabled Bootskin and in the 10 or so times I've rebooted since, there's been no problem.

The problem lies within the "DaVinci's Nightmare" bootskin. I have downloaded the file and found the error (I believe, works for me anyway).

First, go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\WinCustomize\BootSkin\Skins and delete the folder of the original "DaVinci's Nightmare". Now, if you still have the original "DaVinci's Nightmare.bootskin" file then rename it to "DaVinci's Nightmare.zip". If you don't have the original .bootskin, d/l it here.

Once you have re-named the .bootskin to a .zip, right-click the zip and extract the contents to your choosing. Now open the folder (labeled Program Files) that was extracted and then open the next folder continuing until you find a folder labeled "DaVinci's Nightmare". Once at this folder, right-click and cut that folder to it's own location. You can then delete the original "Program Files" folder. Open the DaVinci's Nightmare folder and double-click the bootskin.ini file to open it. Once open put Quotation marks around the description field ( Description = "http://members.citynet.net/dragonworks/" ) > Click the Save button and close the window. Now right-click the DaVinci's Nightmare folder and zip it. Once zipped, rename the .zip to a .bootskin then double-click the bootskin file to auto-install. Voila! Worked for me, should work for you.

Damn, seems a lot of work to fix something that should have been tested prior to upload.

Guess that's why it's called DaVinci's Nightmare

Same. I switched to Dragon XP. I've rebooted twice. No problem.

If you downloaded DaVinci's Nightmare awhile ago, try deleting then redownloading, it may have been fixed. I downloaded it after seeing your thread, I have been using it for 3 days with no problems at all.
